Abstract

The proposed article considers the oldest concept of «food» in German culture as a representative of national-cultural information in the context of the dialogue of cultures.

Life and language are closely connected. Historical and cultural events are reflected in language (most often at the lexical level). Thus, phraseological units, stable metaphors and comparisons reproduce how historical changes influenced the people and their language.

The growth of interest in the relationship between cultures in the context of the globalization of the world also includes a more detailed study of the concept of «food» (which can undoubtedly be considered one of the oldest), as well as a comparison of etymologically similar metaphors or phraseological units of different languages. Such comparisons make it possible to understand which food product was considered more important within the framework of the development of a particular culture and allow us to assess the similarities or differences in the use of different products, their positive or negative meaning.

The problem of studying gastronomic artistic means remains relevant for research. Phraseologisms, in particular, are of great interest. Being readymade language units, phraseologisms are not built from scratch every time, but are always reproduced as stable units. By their nature, they are quite expressive and successfully convey the peculiarities of the national mentality.

The article offers several gastronomic culinary phrases in German and Ukrainian, which gives an interesting perspective on the comparison of cultures.
