ПОНЯТТЯ ТА ПОХОДЖЕННЯ ТЕРОРИСТИЧНИХ ЯВИЩ
Abstract
The article explores the concept, origins, and evolution of terrorism in a global context.
Particular attention is given to the ambiguity of this term, primarily due to the
contradictory definitions presented in numerous scholarly studies, which vary depending
on political, legal, and cultural contexts. The paper analyzes key definitions of terrorism
proposed by leading international organizations, scholars, and analysts.
The focus of this study is on empirical material examined through a historical lens — from
the terrorist acts of Herostratus and anti-Roman sects to contemporary religious and
cyberterrorism. The article outlines the transformation of terrorism from an individual
form of political protest to a globalized, transnational phenomenon that threatens the
security of states, citizens, and the international order at large.
Special emphasis is placed on religious terrorism, which is characterized by the
sacralization of violence, as well as on modern threats such as cyberterrorism. The article
stresses the necessity of a comprehensive approach to counterterrorism, involving legal,
technological, and international cooperation.,
