The article is dedicated to the possibility of using the wartime and post-war experience presented in Remarque's works to process the traumas inflicted by the war on the Ukrainian people.
The laconic and unambiguous style, comparisons, and symbolism can be utilized as an example in therapeutic practice. The "I"-narration, metaphors, short sentences, and the very presentation of events and feelings genuinely experienced by the author provide a preliminary experience that can be useful in our current time and situation.
Remarque's self-perception as an author, which, at least since 1929, was marked by the aspiration and goal of acting as a global author and writing literary texts in the spirit of humanistic values and the fundamental rejection of war to reach a world audience and influence its thinking. Remarque was a writer with a clearly communicated position in the international public sphere, which influenced the form, content, and timing of his publications. His novels were primarily aimed at appealing to the widest possible international audience.
Therefore, even in international communication, there is an opportunity, through the use of phrases, metaphors, and comparisons from his texts, to convey the pain and reality felt by the Ukrainian people now, with the aim of integrating Ukrainian refugees with post-traumatic stress abroad.
